Acropolis of Athens

Visiting Athens, Greece without visiting the Acropolis would not be a waste. This beautiful historical icon in Athens seems to have become Greece’s tourism icon. It is true that Greece owns many historical ruins which were built many centuries before Christ. Nonetheless, the proof of Acropolis offers a comprehensiveness. The almost intact pictures of the social, political, cultural, and intellectual aspects of ancient Greece are recorded in this 12€ fee historical site.

Reaching Acropolis is not a big deal. The seemingly excellent transportation in Athens makes it convenient for visitors to reach Acropolis just from any point in Athens. In addition to that, the improved infrastructure for the preparation of the 2004 Olympics has made traveling around Athens easier than ever.

With a one-way 70 € cent ticket, Acropolis may be directly reached from the subway, and almost all parts of Athens. One may simply get off at the Acropoli Station, go left for about 100 m, and a chunk of this historical hill will immediately appear. Climb your way to the top of the hill, and you will see the almost mystical beauty of Athens.

The many world visitors that regularly visit Acropolis renders Greek a minority language in this place. The English language is often heard, especially now that Athens has become a public spotlight since the 28th Olympics.

While appreciating the beauty and greatness of Acropolis and its surrounding vicinity, one must take special care when walking around. We often have to go through very steep stairs and it is very easy to trip. Also, there is nothing for you to hold on to, so extreme care must be taken when climbing your way to the top.

In the distant past, Acropolis was considered very holy by the Greek people. Historians believe that this is the starting point of the ancient Greek culture, which is often said to be the originator of the western culture. It is not a doubt that Athens is often associated with the Acropolis. Many souvenirs from this old city are commonly Acropolis-themed.

What’s also amazing at the Acropolis is the Odeon of Herodes Atticus. This open building is also called the Herodeon, which is often used for concerts. During the 2004 Olympics, many performances were conducted at this place.
